Agile ways of working became the buzzword in big companies as soon as Silicon Valley decided they were bored of Lean and Waterfall and this new iterative approach began to take hold. Having worked as a change manager in a number of wannabe agile environments and having trained as a behavioural scientist, I can tell you that there are definitely some principles from agile that can work really well in almost any environment.
Iterative approach
Whether you want to put it in the agile bucket or simply recognise the experimental nature of the action, taking baby steps is a MUCH less painful option than jumping head first into something, especially when you know you’re likely to be met with resistance. Having come from engineering and design, the agile manifesto looked at construction like a game of jenga. It’s far easier to remove a block from the top of the stack than to need to get one right at the bottom!
