HCD or human centred design was a natural evolutionary step from the world of UI/UX. It looked to map out a customer’s experiences and paint points along a journey from start to finish.
HCD is great in illustrating good stakeholder management.
ways in which HCD is great
- Thinking about your end user or impacted person. To put yourself in their shoes, to ask them what they think/feel is INVALUABLE in focusing on the right problems to solve, building engagement/trust
- Actually consulting with your stakeholders instead of assuming you know best
Ways in which HCD should be avoided
- HCD works on siloed journey maps. Change is far more holistic and easily influenced by outside factors. If you expect people to exist in a vacuum, you have a rude awakening approaching in the form of spillover effects and unexpected early resistance.
- Change is not linear. You will need to continually go back and review and update content as you learn more about the environment
